This chart highlights the artists with the greatest relative gain in Spotify Monthly Listeners, a metric that is updated every day and consists of “unique listeners who play your music during a 28-day period.

  • Janis Ian is an American folk singer who found commercial success in the 60s and 70s. So why is she seeing 19% growth in Monthly Listeners now? Her most famous song “At Seventeen” was included in the Netflix series “The End of the F***ing World,” which recently entered its second season. The show's soundtrack has several dedicated Spotify playlists.

  • After announcing an indefinite hiatus back in 2018, Indie rock outfit Hoops is back with a new single “They Say.” Naturally, the news sent fans—25,000 of them—scrambling to Spotify to listen.

  • Germany-born, US-based R&B singer Ro James has also seen a surge in Monthly Listeners, anchored by his latest single “Last Time.” The song was featured in a number of popular Spotify playlists, like Chilled R&B and Bedroom Jams (over 1M followers each), further demonstrating how important the format has become for music discovery, particularly in hip-hop.

Her latest single “My Love was Like the Rain,” was released on October 22nd and is three-quarters of a way to 1M plays.

  • Emo stars My Chemical Romance appropriately timed the announcement of their reunion tour to fall on Halloween. The band has experienced strong streaming growth ever since, considering a hiatus that started in 2013. They added 200K new Monthly Listeners this past week.

  • Rapper and singer Buddy has worked with some of the biggest names in hip-hop, including Pharrell, Kendrick Lamar, and A$AP Rocky. His latest single “Hollywood” was released on October 30, driving 50K new Monthly Listeners this past week.

Instagram is one of the most important social platforms for music discovery and engagement. This chart highlights the artists with the biggest followings on Instagram and their follower growth.

Wavo Analysis

  • Will Dua Lipa's “Don’t Start Now” outdo the success of “One Kiss?” Since it’s October 30th release, the song has racked up 65M plays on Spotify, 37M views on YouTube, entered the UK singles chart at #2 and the Billboard Hot 100 at #30. The singer’s Instagram following is growing as well, showing an increase of more than 350K this past week.

  • After signing with Disruptor Records in 2018, actress and singer Dove Cameron began to focus on music. Her latest single “So Good” was released at the start of November. Now, she’s made her way into the top 20 artist Instagram accounts, thanks to a 100K boost in followers this past week.

  • Despite dropping one spot, Cardi B continues to show strong Instagram growth week-over-week. She receives, on average, an astounding 21K comments per post.
