DTP403 - Harvey Mckay - Datatransmission

It’s Monday. We knew this day would come. Whether you spent your weekend having a couple of drinks at your local, or being dragged out on dates by insane 40 year olds before drunk calling a photographer at 4am you met at a festival 2 months ago to tell them you love them, AM back at your desk for another week is never an easy gig. Help is at hand however. They may have almost escaped our imperial grasp but Scotland can be proud of one thing - producing emerging techno talisman Harvey McKay - whose raw energy and heavy-inertia live sets are steadily bringing the Scot into the techno limelight. In fact - he’s playing in London in just a couple of weeks, at Adam Beyer’s infamous Drumcode Halloween day party. Here he is with an hour of moody, melodic madness to power you through your Monday. Wow. Our podcast has been wracking up some serious airmiles of late. Following on from last weeks jaunt to Brazil to harvest the sounds of Volkoder comes a trip Stateside to enjoy the talents of Louisville based DJ and producer Amtrac. A producer we’ve had our eye on for a while, Amtrac has quickly amassed a loyal fanbase through a relentless tour and release schedule and with material as strong as his debut release on Toolroom Records, ‘Those Days’ it’s not hard to see why he’s established such a devoted following. For Amtrac house music is all about “rhythm and soul” and after listening to his work in both the studio and the DJ booth we knew that this was an artist we needed to get on the podcast to share with you. So here it is, 1 hour of unadulterated house bliss courtesy of Amtrac. Enjoy. Tracklisting - http://www.datatransmission.co.uk/podcasts/?podcast=6173 Read more

DTP400 - Skream - Datatransmission

Where has the time gone? It seems like only yesterday we were prepping our inaugural podcast from Ed Banger founder Busy P for your listening delights and here we are today at edition number 400. We’ve had some great guests since launching the series back in 2009 but today we’ve got a mix that is up there with the very best of them with special 2 hour set from DT favourite Skream. One of the most respected figures in the industry, Skream has long championed his own sound, ignoring genre boundaries and tearing up the rule book as he drops of house, techno bass and anything else he feels like playing into his sets which have rocked crowds around the world. It is this ability to effortlessly cross genres - Skream has wowed us playing everything from Dubstep to Disco – that had us so intrigued as to what the eclectic Of Unsound Mind boss would conjure up on the decks for podcast number 400. What he has delivered is a stellar journey through techno that has put smiles on the faces of everyone who has heard it so far. Roll on podcast 4,000! You can Skream at Rinse 20th Birthday at Ministry of Sound on 4th October alongside Route 94, Dimitri From Paris, Kim Ann Foxman, PBR Streetgang and many many more, you can grab tickets below from DT-Tickets! http://www.datatransmission.co.uk/podcasts/?podcast=6036 Read more

DTP396 - Marko Nastic - Datatransmission

Where do you start when introducing a DJ and producer like Marko Nastic? How about as a key part of the team who founded the internationally acclaimed Exit Festival who been at the forefront of the electronic music scene in South East Europe for countless years? Or as the pioneering selector and promoter that should first caught our attention as the name that kept cropping up on some of our favourite labels as he an impressive production career with a back catalogue stretching across imprints such as Tronic, Earresistible Music and Soweso to name but a few? Or better still a musical revolutionary who lead the youth in the rising up against the dark political forces that dominated the atmosphere in Serbia 90's and through electronic music; Marko Nastic enabled millions to resist? Yes, in an age wherein many artists speak lots without saying anything Marko is a shining example of what we can still achieve through music if we put our mind to it. It’s amazing how musical creativity often finds its most fertile breeding grounds in times and places of hardship and adversity. Destruction inevitably leads to creation and the human spirit is often most inspired during the rebuilding process. Look at Berlin for example, the reunification of the city which had suffered for so long quickly led to its establishment as one of the cosmopolitan and interesting places in the world. Thus it came as little surprise to us at Data Transmission when Eastern Europe vibrant music scene began to emerge as one of the biggest hotbeds of creativity with artists like Marko at the vanguard of the movement. After recently wowing us at Exit with a techno set that will live long in the memory we were then further impressed by Marko upon listening to his inbound Love Dancing EP which arrives this September 3rd via AMA Recordings. With oscillating 303 acid lines, shifting percussion and throbbing bass underpinning the release it perfectly reflects Mr. Nastic’s style both in the booth as well as the studio. So our only question was “how do we get Marko on the podcast?” with the answer surprisingly simple. So without further ado may we present to you the sounds of Marko Nastic. Enjoy. Read more

DTP395 - Sebastien Tellier - Datatransmission

Sometimes fate just smiles upon you and you chance upon an artist at the peak of their powers and with Sebastien Tellier providing this week’s podcast we think we’re very much in the right place at the right time. Following the exciting announcements of details of a show at London’s Village Underground this Autumn and a new single entitled Love, taken from his most recent album L’Aventura we think we’re further showcasing the immense talents of the irrepressible French singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist at the perfect time as he delivers some of the most exciting material of his career. For the uninitiated L’Aventura is Tellier’s fifth album official and debut LP for Record Makers – and first for Because Music in the UK. It follows L’Incoyable Verite (2001), Politics (2004), Sexuality (2008) and My God Is Blue (2012). It is a concept set in a part-mythical Brazil, cinematic and adventurous, musically it adds exquisite Brazilian tones to Tellier’s usual idiosyncratic palate of Gallic pop & chanson, baroque and electronic. A unique and hugely talented artist, Tellier’s gifts lay in the unquantifiable. The son of a musician whose first inspiration came from Pink Floyds Atom Heart Mother, he released his first album in 2001 and his break-through single La Ritournelle in 2004 and in subsequent years has carved out a diverse and esoteric path, from working with Daft Punk, Air and Sofia Copolla, to appearing on stage on a golf-cart representing France in 2008’s Eurovision Song Contest. This is a man who refuses to walk anyone else’s path when he can blaze his own trail. Enjoy. Tracklisting - http://www.datatransmission.co.uk/podcasts/?podcast=5725 Read more
